Responsible Use of AI

Guided by its human health care (hhc) concept, the Eisai Group seeks to leverage AI to create further value for patients and the people in the daily living domain and to enhance its business operations. At the same time, we recognize the importance of appropriately managing risks associated with the development, deployment and use of AI, including impacts on privacy and security and risks relating to fairness and transparency.

Based on this approach, we adopted the Global AI Policy in April 2026. The Policy was approved by the Chief Information Officer and the General Counsel.

In line with applicable laws and regulations, our values and ethical standards, we promote the responsible development, deployment and use of AI. Our core commitments are set out below. We review the Global AI Policy as necessary in light of advances in AI technology and changes in AI-related laws and regulations to ensure that it remains appropriate and effective.

AI Governance

The Global AI Policy sets out an AI governance framework, including coordination with the Global AI Governance Committee. Based on this framework, the Eisai Group promotes the responsible use of AI.

Commitments

The core commitments set out in the Global AI Policy are as follows.

1. Accountability

When using AI, we clearly identify who is responsible and accountable for the following:

  • decisions made by AI;
  • decisions based on information provided by AI; and
  • decisions concerning the use of AI itself.

We also ensure that the individual accountable for the outcomes of decisions involving AI remains involved throughout the decision-making process.

2. Privacy, Security and Confidentiality

We respect individuals' right to privacy and safeguard the security and confidentiality of Eisai's data and systems and those of third parties in connection with the development, deployment and use of AI. To this end, we implement appropriate data protection measures and comply with applicable data protection and privacy laws and regulations.

3. Quality, Fairness, Non-Discrimination and Bias Mitigation

We strive to conduct the development, deployment and use of AI, and to handle the underlying data, in accordance with our ethical and quality standards.    We also seek to promote fairness and inclusion and reduce bias in outcomes.

To help prevent and address discrimination and bias, we continuously review and improve AI systems.

4. Transparency and Explainability

We strive to ensure transparency in the development, deployment and use of AI within the Eisai Group. Specifically, we work to:

  • understand the purpose and functionality of AI tools;
  • confirm that AI tools operate as intended;
  • be able to clearly explain how AI systems make decisions; and
  • be able to clearly explain what data AI systems use.
5. Compliance with Laws and Regulations

In developing, deploying and using AI, we comply with applicable laws and regulations in each country and region. We also continuously monitor regulatory developments and regularly review our internal procedures and operations to maintain ongoing compliance.

6. Risk Mitigation

To manage risks associated with the use of AI systems, we implement a risk management strategy. We identify potential risks and work to manage and mitigate them appropriately.

7. Human Oversight, Training and Continuous Learning

We ensure that AI tools are used lawfully and under an appropriate level of human oversight. We also undertake the following initiatives:

  • AI training for employees;
  • training tailored to employees' roles and responsibilities; and
  • continuous improvement of our practices through ongoing learning.
8. Ongoing Monitoring and Evaluation

We continuously review and evaluate the use of AI systems and associated risks, and strive to ensure that such use remains appropriate.
