Eisai Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Tokyo, President: Haruo Naito) announced the launch of SACLON FRESH drink, a quasi-drug product for stomach health, on October 7.
SACLON FRESH is a drink containing a chlorophyll (copper chlorophyllin natrium), medicinal herb extract, and other beneficial ingredients that offer relief from stomach upset and stomach queasiness due to over-eating or drinking. SACLON FRESH has a pleasing mint-flavor which reduces the bitterness of the herbal ingredients, and each 50 ml bottle contains only 14.9 kcal. Suggested retail price of one bottle is 190 yen.
In the quasi-drug product market, the market scale for refreshing and beneficial drinks for stomach health is small, however, this market is expected to expand further because it has been growing annually. According to a company survey (June, 2001) involving 1000 consumers, only 10.4% of consumers took digestive drinks or refreshing drinks for stomach health during the past year. This result suggested that many consumers have never tried these drinks and many consumers do not repeat taking them.
SACLON FRESH is designed to be easy to consume with a competitive price and a good taste for women and young people. We will develop this drink as a new type of refreshing drink for stomach health.
Sales of products in the SACLON Group are forecast for this fiscal year to be approximately 2.5 billion.
