Pharmacy Residency Program

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The Eisai Drug Information (DI) Residency is a new program which will allow the resident a unique opportunity to develop valuable organizational and project management skills in a growing pharmaceutical company. The Eisai DI Residency is a comprehensive 1-year training program designed to help pharmacists understand and develop the skills necessary for a career in industry-based drug information. The resident will have the opportunity to take part in the daily responsibilities of a drug information professional and participate in rotations within other Eisai departments and off-site facilities.

CORE GOALS & OBJECTIVES

  • Provide accurate verbal and written responses to drug information inquiries from healthcare professionals, consumers, sales representatives, and other internal and external customers
  • Update and maintain an active product literature database and conduct systematic literature searches of various databases
  • Effectively probe, gather, organize, and analyze drug information and literature
  • Develop an awareness of corporate organizations, regulatory practices in the pharmaceutical industry, and the drug development process
  • Develop skills for evaluating product literature
  • Understand the adverse drug event and product complaint reporting processes
  • Develop and implement a research project related to drug information best practices
  • Understand the clinical trial life cycle of a pharmaceutical product
  • Understand the formulation development, manufacturing, and packaging of pharmaceuticals
  • Keep abreast of new regulations or other developments that affect the pharmaceutical industry

    ROTATIONAL EXPERIENCES

    Throughout the program, the resident will have the opportunity to participate in rotations within other Eisai departments, including:

  • Product Safety
  • Medical Education and Investigator-Initiated Grants
  • Regulatory Affairs
  • Medical Affairs
  • Drug Development, Formulations, Manufacturing, and Quality
  • Marketing, Managed Markets, and Contracting
  • Sales Training
  • Trade Relations
  • Corporate Public Relations
  • Off-site rotations and activities include:

    • Shadowing Eisai Inc. sales representatives and medical science liaisons
    • Attend the annual Drug Information Association (DIA) Medical Communications meeting to present the results of the Residency Project and supporting scientific meetings


    RESIDENCY PROJECT

    The resident will be responsible for:

  • Developing and presenting a proposal to receive approval for the project
  • Defining and executing project methods
  • Gathering and organizing results
  • Presenting a summary of the project both internally to staff members and at a Drug Information Association (DIA) meeting

    SALARY & BENEFITS

    The resident will receive a competitive stipend and benefits package.

    APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

    Applicants must have a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an ACPE accredited college of pharmacy prior to the start date of July 1, 2010 and be interested in pursuing a career in drug information.

    The ASHP MidYear meeting will take place December 6-10, 2009, in Las Vegas, NV, and is the venue for the first round of interviews. Interviews may be scheduled prior to the meeting or on-site at the meeting. Applications will be reviewed and top candidates will be selected to participate in on-site interviews beginning January 2010.
