Eisai Research InstituteEisai Research Institute in Andover, Massachusetts, is devoted to discovery research on complex synthetic and organic chemical compounds. Among the compounds discovered there are a potential treatment for septic shock.
Also based in Andover is process research and bulk production of pharmaceuticals for use in clinical trials. Process scientists determine the feasibility of pharmaceutical products for commercial production and prepare drug substances for formulation.
Eisai Medical Research Inc.Another independent research operation, Eisai Medical Research Inc. was established in 2002 to focus solely on clinical research and to expedite clinical drug development of new chemical entities and of new indications for marketed products. For example, Eisai Medical Research Inc. continues to study Aricept® (donepezil hydrochloride tablets) for various potential new indications. Eisai Medical Research Inc. is located in Ridgefield Park, New Jersey.
Research Triangle ParkIn 1997 Eisai Inc. opened an 85,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art pharmaceutical production and formulation research and development facility in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. This facility, which prepares formulations for clinical trials, also manufactures Aricept® (donepezil hydrochloride tablets) and Aciphex® (rabeprazole sodium). Since its opening, the facility has more than doubled in size with the completion of a second expansion in 2003.
